JANUARY 2016

     Our own AGM and Potluck dinner.  Margaret Vivyurka was present to conduct the induction

 ceremony of new officers.  Awards and plagues were presented to winners of the 2015

  Annual Flower Show

 

FEBRUARY 2016

Guest speaker: Marg Benian   - presentation on Gardening as you Age.

 

MARCH 2016

     Guest Speaker:  Brenda Grant - -teaching us about making maple syrup and sharing

     wonderful  recipes as well as tasting maple spreads and syrups.

 

APRIL 2016 

     Paid to send 2 delegates to District 13 AGM on May 7,16 at $25.00 each

  

MAY 2016

     Guest Speaker:  Phil Taylor – Guided bird walk at the marina, focussing on migratory birds,

     particularly the snow geese, followed by a Power Point presentation on attracting and

     photographing birds in the home garden.

 

JUNE 2016

     Guest speakers:  Connie Paradis -  a presentation on how to make your own lip balm

     from bees wax and oils. She had quite a few different samples to give away.

 

     Town beautification program: Lina and Ruth will judge from June to September for best

     kept  and most improved front yard – the municipality awarded prizes monthly.

 

     Gardening week: planting in town flower beds  June 14-15      9 am to noon

     Preparing and fertilizing community vegetable garden as well as planting and watering

     and weeding all community gardens throughout the summer months.

 

SEPTEMBER 2016

      Eleventh annual Flower/Produce Garden Show  on Sept.10,16

      Theme: Down Memory Lane

      Presenters: R Behnke and J. Bishop on planning and preparing entries for the Flower show.

      The Show included the following presenters: T. Benian- beekeeping;

      S. Amos- Stained glass; L. Gauthier – aromatherapy;  S. Holke-Foodland Ontario-seasonal

      fruits and vegetables.

      Fundraiser -Penny Sale for Student Bursary  as well as annual Raffle.

 

OCTOBER 2016

     Planting of 24 dozen Red and White Tulips as beautification for Spanish in preparation for

     Canada's 150th birthday in 2017.

 

NOVEMBER 2016

     Guest speaker:  Dave Lawrence – power point presentation on 

     “Creepy Crawlers in the Garden”

 

DECEMBER 2016

     Barb Barton and Nancy Mcintyre helped members with designing and preparing

     arrangements for sale at the annual Spanish Christmas market.

 

     Another good year of activities for the Spanish Horticultural Society.
